I hurried up and wrote up book three...for this?

Sigh.

As I mentioned previously, Crown of Empire is the only book of the four that isn't listed as co-written with David Drake.  I can understand why.  It's not as good as any of the others, it's only 244 pages, and perhaps worst of all, it's just a flat out unsatisfying ending to the series.

I needed to get this one posted ASAP.  Why, you might ask, did I need to do that?

Well, after I read it - yesterday, almost all in one sitting - I decided to get another book.  So I read John Scalzi's Old Man's Wars which was suprisingly, amazingly good, and so I ended up staying up until WAY too late to finish it.

Well, this one doesn't quite have the breathless prose on the back of the book that An Honorable Defense had.  And, instead of it being a David Drake & Thomas T. Thomas collaboration, this one is David Drake and W. C. Dietz.

You can tell, too, by the writing.  While the first book definitely FELT like a David Drake book, this one feels more like an ( Read more... )

I don't know if there are more books in this series; I got this one because it was left in my English teacher's classroom back in, I think, 10th grade, and she gave it to me when no one claimed it.  It's written by David Drake (ta-da! the connection!) and Thomas T. Thomas (oh please tell me his middle name is Thomas...).
